Types of Bets – NRL Odds

There’s no shortage of betting options when it comes to the NRL. Bets can be placed for NRL games round by round, on the State of Origin, on the final weeks of the season or just on the Grand Final game.

Standard bets include: Head-to head, Line or Handicap, Futures Betting, Premiership Winners, Top 4, Top 8, Wooden Spoon, Miss the Top 8, Group Winner, Top NSW Team Round 1-26, Top QLD Team Round 1-26, Make the Grand Final and Minor Premiers.

Of course, there are also the exotics, where generally the big money can be made. Exotics include: First and Last Try scorer, Man of the Match, First Scoring Play, First Team to Score, Exact Score, Exact Winning Margin, Half Time Result, Number of Tries and Total Match Points.

Here’s a breakdown (and a bit of an explanation) of the more popular types of bets:

Head-to-Head: Pick the winner out of the two teams for the match.

Half Time / Full Time: A doubles bet where punters predict the outcome of both halves of the game. Possible outcomes include:

Team A leading at half time / Team A wins the game
Team A leading at half time / Drawn match
Team A leading at half time / Team B wins the game
Team B leading at half time / Team B wins the game
Team B leading at half time / Drawn match
Team B leading at half time / Team A wins the game
Draw at half time / Drawn match.

Line or Handicap:
Where the favoured team, as selected by the bookmaker, is handicapped and must win by a set number of points. Punters can bet that the favourite team will win by at least that many points, that the underdogs will lose by no more than that many points, or that the underdogs will win.

Margin:
Select the team that will win and the margin of victory (unless drawn), the margins are set by the bookmaker and are either Team A or B to win by 1-12 points or 13 + points, or Draw.

Premiership / Grand Final / Seasonal Winner: The team to win the end of season deciding match.

Wooden Spoon: The team who places last on the Ladder Board over the season or round.

Odds for betting on the NRL change regularly according to factors like player availability and match performance, so it always pays to keep a close eye on latest odds available for the NRL.
